The Vajra Dance belongs to the cycle of Longsal terma Teachings of Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, and it is inseparably linked to the Transmission of his Dzogchen Teachings.

In the Dzogchen teaching Vajra refers to our real nature, the true condition of all phenomena. The Vajra Dance is an important method which uses sound and movement for integrating the three aspects of our existence – body, energy and mind – in that knowledge.
Chögyal Namkhai Norbu introduced the Vajra Dance to his students in 1990. Since then it has been practiced in various places and centers of the Dzogchen Community all around the world.

Up to today Chögyal Namkhai Norbu has given instructions on four Vajra Dances: the Dance of the Vajra that Benefit Beings, which is open to everybody; and the Dance of the Three Vajras, the Dance of the Dance of the Song of the Vajra and the Dance of the Vajra of Khalong Dorjekar, which can be practiced by who received the Transmission of Guru Yoga from Chögyal Namkhai Norbu.

The Vajra Dance practice and the mandala.

The Vajra Dance can be performed by 12 practitioners: 6 pamo or female practitioners and 6 pawo or male practitioners.

The Vajra Dance mandala of 5 colors is a symbol of the correspondence between the inner dimension of the individual, our energetic body with channels and chakras, and the outer dimension of the world, our planet, the Earth.

Up to today we know three mandalas on which to perform the Vajra Dances. In the International Dzogchen Community we practice on the Mandala of the Earth.

Benefits of the Vajra Dance

Through the Vajra Dance we can harmonize and relax deeply our body, energy and mind using sound and movement.

Each step we do on the Vajra Dance mandala is connected with outer energy points on the Earth and, at the same time, with inner energy points of our Vajra Body. The correspondence between the inner and the outer dimension, is activated through the sound of melody and mantras.

Through the practice of Vajra Dance we can balance our energy and find a more relaxed, clear and calm state, which help us to deal better with the circumstances of our daily life.

The Vajra Dance is member of CID (Conseil International de la Danse), the official organization recognized by UNESCO for all forms of dance in all countries of the world.
